Why holistic? A brief discourse on the potential benefits in contrast to conventional medicine.
The most common approach to our illnesses is a trip to the doctor; who gives advise that you could have found on the internet, maybe some pills to cure our aches and whistles, and most definitely not the reassurance that something will actually change. Before understanding the need for holistic, we have to briefly comprehend the ills of the conventional.
Conventional medicine, first and foremost, is a business – and has been for the longest time. You may have overheard the common belief that the cure for cancer will never be found, as there is too much money to be made treating it. Such is the mind-set for almost all our ills; headaches, digestion problems, nausea, sleepless nights: give me pill pill pill pill pill. Most doctors are sponsored by some form of pharmaceuticals, and benefit from the selling of these pills, they for one also have bills to pay and a family to feed. Therefore, it is much more marketable and safe for them to treat their patients with pills and other devices.
Not only that, but such methods allow for one to come back with ills stemming from the dosage used to treat the other one. Symptoms from an underlying disease have underlying causes, and to treat the symptoms without treating the causes is to cover a severely bleeding wound with a tiny plaster – it does not address the underlying cause. By treating the symptom and not the underlying cause, pills and other forms of conventional medicine do very little at all, and simply allow further illness to manifest from the dosage of the previous treatment. In short, Doctors do not always have the patients best interest at heart, and even if they did, pills are not the way to go.
So if conventional method of treating patients is so flawed, why, and how, is the holistic method any better? This is a complicated issue that cannot be divulged in a short article, but the argument is as follows:
Holistic therapy usually holds the patients needs as a first priority. There are no big pharmaceuticals nor holistic business deals manifesting behind the scenes – its just the patient and the Doctor. It is an approach that focuses primarily on the longevity of the individual, and if the patient symptoms disappear after a few treatments (though this means less business for the Holistic Therapist), this is considered the best result possible.
If you look at particular therapies on our website, such as Acupuncture or Reiki, they see the symptoms as evidence that there is an underlying force that is creating the problem. Many ills come about naturally, throughout our daily lives, whether that be through our cognitive processes or through alternative ways, we have created problems for ourselves, and often we can cure them ourselves. Holistic therapy assists in the self healing process (e.g. acupuncture allowing the flow of energy to manifest, and Reiki helping understanding the deep psychological and spiritual conflictions within the patient). Holistic therapies allow the individual to connect with the reasons for their symptoms and not only cure themselves of them, but have the knowledge to never allow them to manifest themselves again.
